This course enables you to identify and reflect on your leadership capabilities through self-assessment and reflection. You will develop the professional requirements to become an ethical leader. This paper supports you in recognising your personal leadership gaps and design your professional leadership development. During this course, you will examine yourself through self-assessment and analyse using key theories and cases related to the effective practice of ethical leadership. You will examine your current and previous workplace experiences and relationships to understand leadership behaviour in the context of the ‘real world’.

Description 
This course will build your understanding of leading high performing teams and develop your mastery in adapting your leadership style to meet the needs of your team and organisation. This course will develop your skill in working with individuals, the team dynamic and achieving the team and organisation’s objectives. You will build your skills for agile and adaptive leadership that promotes effective performance. Finally, you will analyse your team's dynamic, understand the levers of influence and formulate strategies for effective conflict resolution, communication and team leadership.

1. Demonstrate your understanding of power dynamics to positively influence teams.
2. Analyse group dynamics and the process of team development.

This course is designed to empower emerging and established leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the intricate relationship between strategic decision making and organisational change. Throughout this subject, you will explore how strategic decisions shape and drive organisational transformations, and how change influences decision-making processes. By examining the assumptions, limitations, and mental models that either enable or impede strategic decision making and change, you will develop a critical perspective and gain insights into overcoming barriers.

On completion of the course, it is expected that learners will be able to: 

1. Describe the relationship between strategic decision making and change.
2. Explore assumptions, limitations, and mental models that either enable or create barriers to strategic decision making and change in organisations.
3. Design leadership decisions and leading change using appropriate frameworks and processes.
4. Develop a change strategy associated with strategic leadership decisions, using change management principles and ideas.  

Description 
This course will develop your skills in leading contemporary approaches to strategy development and analysis and formulation in complex business systems. You will develop the innovative practices of the organisation to respond to external challenges in a dynamic business environment. Adopting an ecosystems approach, this course focuses on building your skills to lead strategic development and identify competitive advantage for sustainable performance.

Student Services Levy costs
Each year university students around Aotearoa New Zealand are charged a Student Services Levy (SSL) in addition to their tuition fees. All the SSL money collected can only be used for the benefit of students - never for academic or administrative costs.

The SSL is automatically calculated on how many points you enrol in per academic year, capped at a maximum of 150 points. UC Online learners are charged a reduced SSL rate, which is 20% of the usual on-campus student levy. This is calculated as $1.83 per academic point in 2024. The programme can be completed in eight months when taking 2 courses per term (25 hours of study per week) or 1.5 years when taking 1 course per term (12 hours of study per week). If you need to take a break at any point, the programme must be completed within three years. 

Studying online allows for flexibility in completing coursework, and Tuihono UC’s programme provides learners with the same quality education and resources as our on-campus programmes. 

The Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership is offered exclusively online in 2024. The quality of the programme is the same as on-campus postgraduate certificates, but our online programme offers greater flexibility in terms of scheduling and location. 

The programme is delivered with a majority of coursework online, using a range of technologies including video conferencing, online discussion forums, and interactive learning experiences. 

Learners have access to the same support services as on-campus students, including academic advising, technical support, and library resources. There are also great resources for both Canterbury based and remote learners at the UC RecCentre. Learn more here.

Applications are made online through our Tuihono UC | UC Online website – view open enrolments and/or expressions of interest for when enrolments open. 

If you are a domestic learner, the below process will apply. If you are an international learner, the application process is slightly different, and we recommend getting in touch with our enrolment team at info@uconline.ac.nz to answer any questions.

For domestic learners, your application will be assessed by our academic team to make sure you meet all entrance criteria (including academic and English language requirements). We may be in touch to ask you further questions about your experience, or to request additional supporting documentation. If your application is accepted, you will be sent an 'Offer of Place' to let you know your enrolment has been conditionally approved.

Following this, we will generate an ‘Enrolment Agreement’ outlining your courses, fees and student agreement, which you need to sign and accept. Your enrolment is only complete when the fees outlined in this agreement are paid in full (view payment options), at which point you’ll become ‘Fully Enrolled’ and receive a ‘Welcome to Tuihono UC | UC Online’ email with details of your next steps to start learning.
