Are you ready to apply to our online Master of Health Sciences (Nursing)?

Tuihono UC | UC Online Master of Health Sciences

Congratulations on taking the next step towards further study! Applications to enrol into our Master of Health Sciences (Nursing) in 2025 are open now for domestic learners based in Canterbury or the West Coast. Enrolments are limited, and applicants may be waitlisted. If you're based outside of those regions, or an international learner, please sign up for enrolment updates.

When you apply to enrol into a programme with Tuihono UC | UC Online you're applying to Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury. This means you'll be part of the University of Canterbury student body, and are eligible for a wide range of support and digital services.

How does the process work?

  • Applications are currently only open to domestic learners based in Canterbury or the West Coast, due to current placement availability. We will share news with people signed up for updates regarding applications opening to international learners and people based outside of those regions.
  • During the application process, we'll ask you a range of questions about yourself, including requesting the documentation listed below under 'get your documentation ready'. Please note: when asked to select "Study Options" please select "UC Online, full-time - 10 Feb 2025".
  • After you submit your application, this will be assessed by our academic team to make sure you meet all entrance criteria (including academic and English language requirements). We may be in touch to ask you further questions about your experience, or to request additional supporting documentation. If your application is accepted, you will be sent an 'Offer of Place' to let you know your enrolment has been conditionally approved.
  • At present, you can only add the qualification "MHEALSC" and subject "Endorsement: Nursing" to your application, and not your courses. In October, we will get in touch with successful applicants who received an 'Offer of Place', asking them to add their courses to their application. If you are planning to use a StudyLink student loan to finance your studies, October is also when we will encourage you to apply for a Student Loan with StudyLink - not now.
  • In October, after our team have processed the courses you have added, you will be sent an 'Enrolment Agreement' outlining your studies, fees and student agreement, which you need to sign and accept.
  • Your enrolment is only complete when the fees outlined in the Enrolment Agreement are paid in full (view payment options), at which point you’ll become ‘Fully Enrolled’ and receive a ‘Welcome to Tuihono UC | UC Online’ email with details of your next steps to start learning.

Get your documentation ready

Before you start your application to enrol in the Master of Health Sciences (Nursing), you'll need to prepare these documents:

  • Verified evidence of your identity, such as a certified copy of your birth certificate, or a certified copy of the photo page in your passport. There are additional requirements depending on your visa status, or if you have legally changed your name - for more information view full verification requirements.
  • Proof of your academic qualifications, such as a transcript or your UC student ID number if you studied your undergraduate degree with us. If you graduated with a bachelor's degree from another university, you will need to request a digital copy of your transcript through them.
  • For international learners: proof of your English language proficiency.
  • Clinical practice requirements: you will also need to meet the requirements stipulated in the Children's Act 2014, and health/immunisation requirements of clinical agencies and the HPCA Act 2003.

It's also helpful to have:

In-person intensives

Please note: learners must attend in-person intensives onsite at University of Canterbury (Ilam or Manawa campus). The first round of in-person intensives will take place in the first week of semester 1 (early February) and then mid-semester 1 (April), with semester 2 dates to be confirmed with enrolled learners.
