Scholarships for online learners — whoever you are, wherever you're based


Each year we offer a range of Tuihono UC | UC Online scholarships to help future and current learners like you find your future. 

Some scholarships are designed to support financial need, while others recognise academic achievement or encourage diversity and inclusion by helping first-in-family, rural or Māori and Pacific learners. 

We know every learner's journey is different, which is why we encourage everyone to apply, even if you're not sure you fit the mould. Once you’re studying, you won’t be doing it alone. Our online Learner Support Team is here to support you every step of the way.

View our scholarships for online learners, check your eligibility, and get ready to apply. 

Details: The scholarship aims to help ākonga struggling to remain within their chosen field of study to successfully continue their university studies to completion. Applicants must be enrolled in a full degree, diploma or certificate programme of study with Tuihono UC | UC Online and be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas who are residing in Aotearoa New Zealand at the time of study.

Value: The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of 100% of tuition fees, along with, if funds permit, a stipend to help support living and study costs. Full details of the value of the award will be laid out in the offer of the scholarship.

Details: To support opportunities for those in part- or full-time work to study with Tuihono UC | UC Online for professional upskilling and progression with employer-assistance. Applicants must be in employment and being supported by their employer to enrol in a short course, micro-credential, or full degree, diploma or certificate programme through Tuihono UC | UC Online. Applicants must be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas who are residing in Aotearoa New Zealand at the time of study.

Value: The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of 50% of tuition fees, with the recipient’s employer paying the remaining 50% of fees.

Details: The scholarship aims to help make university, and study through Tuihono UC | UC Online, accessible to all, regardless of background. Applicants must be intending to enrol in a short course, micro-credential, or a full degree, diploma or certificate programme through Tuihono UC | UC Online; be the first in their immediate family to study at a university; and be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas, residing in Aotearoa New Zealand at the time of study.

Value: The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of up to 75% of the cost of tuition fees.

Details: This scholarship aims to help address the underrepresentation of women in the technology sector in New Zealand, particularly in senior roles, by supporting women enrolling in approved Tech programmes delivered through Tuihono UC | UC Online. Applicants must identify as female and be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas who are residing in Aotearoa New Zealand at the time of study.

Value: The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of up to 75% of tuition fees.

Applicants must be intending to enrol in a short course, micro-credential, certificate, or full programme with Tuihono UC | UC Online. Applicants must whakapapa Māori; be entering tertiary study for the first time or are returning to study after several years; and be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas, residing in Aotearoa New Zealand at the time of study.

Value: The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of up to 50% of the cost of tuition fees, plus, if funds permit, a stipend.

Applicants must be intending to enrol in a short course, micro-credential, certificate, or full programme with Tuihono UC | UC Online. Applicants must be Pacific (see the UC definition in Glossary of Terms); be entering tertiary study for the first time or are returning to study after several years; and be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas, residing in Aotearoa New Zealand at the time of study.

Value: The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of up to 50% of the cost of tuition fees, plus, if funds permit, a stipend.

Closing date: 27 June 2025

Details: The scholarship aims to ensure online learning is accessible to everyone, regardless of location. Applicants must be intending to enrol in a short course, micro-credential, or full degree, diploma or certificate programme through Tuihono UC | UC Online. Applicants must reside outside of medium, large or major urban areas (see Regulations for details); and be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas who are residing in Aotearoa New Zealand at the time of study.

Value: The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of up to 75% of the cost of tuition fees.

Each scholarship will have a link to an application form for you to complete and will have an open and close date. We aim to ask questions that will enable you to best share how you are a great fit for the scholarship. Please read over the information at the top of the application form and use this as a guide for the information you provide – make sure you complete each question. Once applications close, the selection committee will review all applications and access against a set criteria and rubric to ensure they are being fair in their decision making.

Not necessarily. Some Tuihono UC | UC Online scholarships are available to first-time applicants, while others are open to current online learners. Be sure to check each scholarship for full eligibility details. 

Each Univerity of Cantebury scholarship for online learners is different. Some cover full or partial tuition fees, while others support learners with travel and accomodation for in-person learning intensives.
