Congratulations on taking the next step towards online study!

When you apply for a programme with Tuihono UC | UC Online you're applying to learn online with Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury. As an online learner, you'll be part of the UC student community, with access to the same support and digital services, plus dedicated online support.

You're online, not alone. Our Enrolment Support Team is here to support your application, and once you begin studying our Learner Support Team is here to help you succeed.

What you need to prepare

Before you start your application, you'll need:

Applying for a postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma or master's degree?

You'll also need to prepare:

  • Proof of any academic qualifications you have. This requires a transcript or your UC student ID number if you studied your undergraduate degree with us. If you graduated with a bachelor's degree from another university, you will need to request a digital copy of your transcript through them.
  • Proof of your professional work history, such as a CV or resume.
  • Two short paragraphs explaining what interests you about studying the programme you're applying for, and what you'd like to achieve with it.

Once you know which online programme you want to apply for, please get in touch with our Enrolment Support Team. They'll confirm the courses you need to select, and can be reached via enrolments@uconline.ac.nz or 03 369 0600.

Please note: a minimum number of learners is needed for effective interaction and feedback, while a maximum cap of learners ensures high quality learning and support. If the minimum number of enrolments required for a course isn’t met, or the maximum cap is exceeded, learners will be given the option to defer their study or receive a refund.

If you're applying for one of our postgraduate nursing programmes, there are a few extra requirements you'll need to meet.

Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Registered Nurse Prescriber) — PGDipNurs, or Master of Advanced Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) — MAdvNurs.

  • A current Registered Nurse practicing certificate from Te Kaunihere Tapuhi o Aotearoa | Nursing Council of New Zealand.

Master of Health Sciences (Nursing) — MHealSc(Nursing).

  • For clinical practice requirements you will also need to meet the requirements stipulated in the Children's Act 2014, and health/immunisation requirements of clinical agencies and the HPCA Act 2003 — view full additional requirements.
  • International learners will be expected to participate in an online interview with a member of the faculty as part of the application process.
