What motivated you to return to study while working as a Marketing and Communications Manager?
My career had taken many different paths since completing a Master of Science at UC many years ago. Like many graduates, I headed to the UK, where I spent five years working in a variety of roles, primarily investment banking. After returning to New Zealand, I eventually found myself in a Marketing and Communications Manager position within the financial services sector. I especially enjoyed the communications side of the work, even though I didn’t have a formal qualification in the field.
I wanted to do something for myself, to deepen my knowledge, gain a recognised qualification, and open up new opportunities in communications. As a mum of two young children, working full-time, I was fortunate to have the support of my employer (and husband!), which allowed me to complete the Master of Strategic Communication part-time over two years. The flexibility of the programme made it possible to balance study, work, and family life.
