Team Tuihono

6 December 2024

Phew – the year is almost over, and our term four students are finishing up their final assignments. As we get ready for a new year of learning and development, we wanted to celebrate what our amazing learners and Tuihono team have achieved together this year!

Whaowhia te kete mātauranga | Fill the basket of knowledge

Wow - in 2024 we had a 137% increase in enrolments, and a 73% increase in learners from 2023!

From 50-hour short courses to online master's degrees, it's been fantastic to see people reaching their goals with us this year.

This year, we doubled the number of courses we offer, with 42 superstar facilitators helping learners succeed in their online courses.

Mā te kotahitanga e whai kaha ai tātou | In unity we find strength.

We developed Tuihono UC | UC Online to reach a different group of learners, who wouldn't be able to join us on-campus at Te Whare Wānanga | University of Canterbury.

We're proud to see that we are reaching new audiences, with our average learner aged 35, and 38% being the first in their family to attend university.

Curious about our most popular courses? So were we!

In 2024, learners loved Professional Project Management, Academic Writing Basics and Psychology of Wellbeing.

Professor Julia Rucklidge's other wellbeing micro-credentials, Nutrition and Wellbeing, and Lifestyle and Wellbeing, also proved popular, with people keen to boost their health and wellbeing online.

While people typically imagine university students coming straight from high school, 60% of our learners were working before beginning study with us.

Many also continued working while studying, with over half of our learners studying part-time this year.

We're also thrilled to see learners spread across the motu | country, with a spread that ranges from right here in Ōtautahi Christchurch, to the tip of the north island, and bottom of the south!

Ka rawe - awesome!

Whakamihi | congrats to our first programme graduates this year! 12 learners successfully finished their online Certificate in Criminal Justice just in time for UC's September graduation.

Across all of our programmes and courses in 2024, our learners achieved a pass rate of 82% - phew!

Looking ahead to 2025

We're excited to welcome a new group of learners to online study in 2025. If you're considering upskilling online, it's not too late to enrol for February - learn more and enrol now.
